Cruz Accuses Democrats of Prolonging Shutdown to Energize Radical Voters

Senator Ted Cruz claimed that Democrats are deliberately extending the federal government shutdown to mobilize their most extreme supporters ahead of Election Day, accusing party leaders of putting politics above the country’s wellbeing.

In an interview, Cruz argued that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and other Democrats have rejected multiple Republican funding proposals to “keep the crisis alive” and drive voter turnout among the far-left. “This shutdown isn’t about negotiation—it’s about election strategy,” Cruz said, asserting that Democrats are using the standoff to stir outrage and strengthen their base.

The ongoing shutdown, now approaching record length, has left hundreds of thousands of federal employees furloughed and delayed numerous government programs. Republicans have introduced several short-term funding bills, but Democrats have blocked each one, demanding broader policy concessions including healthcare funding and SNAP benefit extensions.

Cruz described the situation as “manufactured chaos,” insisting that the administration is ready to sign a funding measure once Congress acts in good faith. He warned that the continued stalemate risks damaging public trust in both parties and underscored his belief that “the American people are the real hostages” in a fight driven by partisanship rather than policy.
