Former Vice President Dick Cheney made his last known major public appearance in September 2022 at an event supporting his daughter, Liz Cheney, where he was seen wearing a mask. The 84-year-old delivered remarks as Liz Cheney criticized Republican leaders for their handling of national security and executive power.
At the gathering, Cheney joined his wife in the audience as Liz publicly rebuked her party for what she described as treating former President Donald Trump as “above the law.” The appearance marked a rare return to center stage for Cheney after years of largely staying out of public view following serious health issues.
In that months-old appearance, Cheney had also released a hard-hitting video that labeled Trump a significant threat to the republic—a pointed declaration given their prior association. The event was seen by observers as a final act of public political engagement for the former vice president.
Cheney passed away at age 84 on November 3, 2025, from complications related to pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease.
