Congresswoman Elise Stefanik officially entered the 2026 New York gubernatorial race on Friday, presenting herself as a reformer ready to challenge incumbent Governor Kathy Hochul. In her campaign kickoff, Stefanik pledged to restore affordability, reinforce public safety and reverse what she described as Hochul’s mismanagement of the state’s economy, taxes and migration policies.
The launch video titled “From the Ashes” opens by depicting New York’s challenges—soaring costs, rising out-migration and public-safety concerns—then positions Stefanik as the solution. She has built support among leading GOP figures including former Governor George Pataki and New York Republican Party Chairman Ed Cox, indicating strong early backing.
Stefanik’s announcement comes after months of speculation and targeted groundwork: building a statewide field operation, securing endorsements, and framing her message around suburban family economics and small-business revitalization. Her campaign slogan: “It’s time to save New York.”
If successful, she would become the first Republican governor of New York since 2002 and the first woman from the GOP in the role. With the state trending more competitive and her campaign under way, the race promises to be a high-stakes contest in the national political spotlight.
