Rep. Jodey Arrington, Republican Chairman of the House Budget Committee, announced that he will not seek re-election in 2026, marking the end of his decade-long tenure in Congress. The Texas congressman stated that he views public office as a temporary stewardship rather than a lifelong career.

Arrington cited what he described as a generational responsibility for new leadership to take the reins. He reflected on his role in advancing the president’s economic agenda and said he regrets none of his major policy efforts, but believes this is the right moment to step aside.

His departure opens a major seat in the House at a time when the Republican majority is narrow, adding fresh uncertainty to the chamber’s dynamic heading into the next election cycle. The move could trigger a congested primary in his West Texas district and shift the balance for conservative votes on budget and spending matters.
