Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk said that advances in artificial intelligence and robotics could render traditional work roles unnecessary within 10 to 20 years. He added that the concept of money itself may eventually become irrelevant.
Speaking at a high-profiles investment forum, Musk compared future work to leisure activities like gardening or gaming, suggesting that AI-powered automation could handle most essential tasks while humans pursue activities of choice. He stressed that significant development remains before such a shift becomes reality but described the long-term outcome as “probably positive.”
Musk also cited his company’s Optimus robot project as an example of the change he envisions, indicating that if robots can assume difficult and routine work, society may transition to a post-scarcity model where human labour is optional, not required.
