President Donald Trump criticized the refugee-resettlement program that allowed the Afghan national accused of ambushing National Guard troops in Washington, D.C., to enter the country.

Trump said the system failed to prevent the suspect, 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, from entering the United States, arguing that the program posed unnecessary security risks. He called for tougher screening measures and emphasized the need for stricter oversight following the deadly attack.

Lakanwal was arrested after allegedly opening fire on two West Virginia National Guard members near a downtown metro station. One guard member died from her injuries, and the other remains in serious condition. The incident has prompted a federal investigation and reignited debate over the nation’s refugee policies.
