New York City police responded swiftly after a group of rioters began tossing trash bins and chunks of ice at police cars, sparking chaos in several neighborhoods late Saturday night.
Officers said the crowd — estimated at over 50 people — targeted patrol vehicles parked along city streets, shattering windows and denting bodywork before running off into nearby alleys. Multiple suspects were taken into custody after officers used crowd-control tactics to disperse the mob.
Authorities confirmed at least five arrests, with charges including disorderly conduct, vandalism, and assault on law enforcement. No serious injuries have been reported so far.
City officials condemned the violence and promised stepped-up patrols in affected areas this week. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and seeking public tips to identify and charge additional participants.
