Authorities say two teenage boys allegedly tricked a 14-year-old girl into following them into a wooded area by claiming they had a crush on her mother — then shot and burned the child, authorities report.
The victim, identified as Danika Troy, had gone missing after taking her electric scooter. Her body — shot multiple times and set on fire — was discovered along a trail near Kimberly Road. Investigators say the suspects, both former classmates of Danika, used the false promise of a meeting with her mother to lure her.
According to officials, the 16-year-old boy allegedly stole a handgun from his mother to carry out the crime, while a 14-year-old allegedly aided in the killing. A cooperating witness reportedly told investigators the plan was premeditated, sparked by a social-media dispute involving the victim.
Both suspects now face first-degree premeditated murder charges. Prosecutors are seeking to treat the case as adult homicide given its severity. The motive remains under investigation as detectives comb the scene, digital communications, and witness statements to build their case.
