Federal agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement opened fire on a van driver who they say attempted to run over officers during a confrontation on Christmas Eve.

According to law enforcement sources, the incident began when ICE agents approached a vehicle during an operation and the driver allegedly accelerated toward them. Fearing for their safety, agents discharged their weapons in an effort to stop the vehicle.

The driver was struck and taken into custody, then transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials report that the injuries sustained are serious but not believed to be life-threatening. No agents were harmed during the encounter.

The situation remains under active investigation by local and federal authorities, who are reviewing body-camera footage, witness statements, and other evidence to determine the sequence of events and whether protocols were properly followed.

Authorities have not released the identity of the driver pending formal charges and family notification. Statements from ICE and other law enforcement agencies are expected as more details emerge.

The case underscores the risks faced by federal agents in the field and highlights ongoing concerns about confrontations between law enforcement and civilians during enforcement actions. Further updates are anticipated as investigators continue to examine the case.
