New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has named CEA Weaver as his new chief economic adviser, bringing a fresh voice to the city’s financial planning and policy team.

Weaver, who previously served in senior roles related to economic strategy and public policy, will lead the mayor’s efforts to address key challenges facing the city’s economy. His portfolio includes advising on fiscal priorities, workforce development initiatives, and strategies to attract investment and support local business growth.

In his new role, Weaver will work closely with other city agencies to develop economic programs aimed at strengthening New York’s post-pandemic recovery, promoting equitable opportunity, and enhancing long-term competitiveness. He is expected to provide guidance on budget planning, economic forecasts, and policy proposals that affect employment, housing, and infrastructure.

Mayor Mamdani praised Weaver’s appointment, highlighting his experience in economic analysis and community engagement as valuable assets for shaping the city’s strategic vision. The selection reflects the administration’s focus on revitalizing economic activity and addressing income disparities across neighborhoods.

Weaver’s arrival comes at a moment of renewed attention on urban economic resilience, with leaders nationwide grappling with inflation, labor market shifts, and investment in essential services. In New York, the mayor’s economic team will be central to navigating these issues as the city enters a new chapter of governance.

The transition underscores Mayor Mamdani’s intent to build a team equipped to handle complex fiscal challenges while fostering growth and innovation across New York’s diverse economy. Weaver is expected to begin his duties immediately, with key initiatives announced in the coming weeks.
