A newly released cellphone video recorded by a federal immigration agent shows the moments leading up to the fatal shooting of 37 year old Renee Nicole Good during an Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation in Minneapolis on January 7.
The footage captures the ICE agent approaching Good’s SUV as she and her wife speak with officers at the scene. In the video, Good appears calm while interacting with the agent shortly before the situation escalates. As agents surround the vehicle and issue commands, the SUV begins to move and the agent fires multiple shots. The vehicle then drives away and later crashes a short distance from the scene.
Federal officials have said the agent fired after believing the vehicle posed an immediate threat, describing the shooting as an act of self defense. Local officials, community members, and witnesses have questioned that account, arguing the video does not clearly show the agent being in danger at the moment shots were fired.
The release of the footage has intensified public debate and prompted renewed calls for transparency and independent investigation. Protests have followed as scrutiny grows over the actions of federal immigration officers and the circumstances surrounding Good’s death.
