A federal law enforcement officer was seriously injured during violent unrest in Minneapolis after an individual opposing immigration enforcement allegedly bit off part of the officer’s finger, according to authorities.
The attack occurred amid clashes between demonstrators and federal agents during protests tied to ongoing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity in the city. Officials said the scene escalated rapidly as officers attempted to control the crowd, resulting in physical confrontations.
Department of Homeland Security officials confirmed that the injured agent suffered a permanent injury, losing part of a finger during the assault. Images of the injury were later released by federal authorities to illustrate the severity of the attack.
Law enforcement sources said at least one suspect was taken into custody in connection with the incident, and federal prosecutors are pursuing charges related to the assault on a federal officer.
The violent episode has intensified scrutiny of the protests in Minneapolis, which have followed recent federal enforcement actions and sparked widespread demonstrations. Officials at both the federal and local levels have condemned the violence and urged calm as investigations continue into both the protest-related assault and the broader unrest surrounding immigration enforcement operations.
