Trump Sues IRS and Treasury for $10 B Over Alleged Tax Leak

President Donald Trump has filed a $10 billion federal lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the U.S. Treasury Department, accusing them of failing to safeguard his tax records and allowing confidential tax returns to be disclosed to news organizations.

The complaint, filed in federal court in Miami, claims that the leak of Trump’s tax information — including returns published by major outlets — was unauthorized and violated federal privacy protections, harming his reputation and business interests.

Trump’s legal action names the IRS, the Treasury Department, and other parties as defendants, asserting that inadequate oversight and security at the agencies permitted the breach. The lawsuit seeks compensatory and punitive damages totaling at least $10 billion for what the plaintiffs describe as negligent and potentially politically motivated conduct.

The case references previous incidents in which an IRS contractor pleaded guilty to unlawfully accessing and sharing confidential tax data from agency systems. That contractor has already been sentenced in a separate criminal proceeding for disclosing tax returns to the media.

Trump’s filing adds to a broader dispute over the handling of sensitive taxpayer information and raises questions about accountability within federal agencies responsible for protecting financial privacy. The IRS and Treasury have not publicly responded to the lawsuit, and the case is expected to proceed through the courts as officials review the allegations.
