Veteran forensic sketch artist Lois Gibson, celebrated for decades of investigative artwork, has released her own depiction of the individual seen in surveillance footage linked to the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie.
Guthrie, the mother of television journalist Savannah Guthrie, vanished from her suburban Tucson, Arizona residence in the early hours of February 1. Authorities believe she was taken from her home, and a nationwide effort to locate her continues.
Gibson, who retired from her long career with the Houston Police Department and holds records for her cumulative identifications, said the limited images from a doorbell camera showing a masked man inspired her to sketch what the face beneath the mask might look like. Because the suspect’s identity is hidden behind a ski mask in the footage, Gibson acknowledged that much of the completed illustration reflects professional interpretation of the visible features, including the eyes and lower face.
Law enforcement officials have separately described the suspect as a male of average build, roughly 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, and wearing gloves and a dark backpack. Multiple tips have come in since authorities released these details and related images to the public, and the FBI has increased the reward for actionable information.
Investigators stress the case remains active, with no arrests made, and continue to encourage anyone with relevant information to come forward.
