Trump Blasts Supreme Court After Limits on Tariff Authority

President Donald Trump lashed out at the Supreme Court following a ruling that significantly curtails his authority to impose broad tariffs, calling the decision a disgrace and a setback for American economic policy.

In public remarks, Trump argued the court overstepped by restricting the executive branch’s ability to use emergency powers to levy sweeping import duties, a key tool in his efforts to counter what he describes as unfair global trade practices. He said the ruling undermines U.S. leverage in trade negotiations and hampers efforts to protect domestic industries.

Trump reaffirmed his belief that robust tariffs are essential to addressing trade imbalances and strengthening manufacturing jobs at home. He vowed to explore every available avenue to preserve and reinstate his trade measures, including alternative legal and legislative strategies.

The court’s decision narrow’s the administration’s ability to unilaterally impose tariffs without clear statutory backing from Congress, reshaping the landscape of U.S. trade policy and executive authority.

Trump’s reaction underscores heightened tension between the White House and the judiciary, with the president insisting that judicial intervention has weakened America’s position against economic rivals. The administration continues to assess options moving forward while maintaining that strong tariff enforcement remains a priority of his economic agenda.
