Lake has asked the Arizona Supreme Court to review her claim of election fraud in the upcoming 2022 midterms.
Republican Kari Lake lost in court in Arizona and was forced to pay Democratic Gov.-elect Katie Hobbs $33,000 in legal fees after she tried to overturn the results of the 2022 gubernatorial election.
Earlier this week, Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Peter Thompson ordered Lake to reimburse the expenses of expert witnesses who testified in favor of election officials. On Tuesday, Lake filed an appeal of this ruling. Hobbs had already won the election by a margin of almost 17,000 votes, but she asked the judge to impose further fines on her Republican opponent.
“Each party believes completely in its standpoint with tremendous conviction,” Thompson wrote. Because “plaintiff [Lake] could not meet the burden of clear and convincing evidence,” the court did not rule that her claims were without merit or were made in bad faith.
On election day, Lake claimed that intentional interference caused ballot printer problems at many polling places. She also testified to an expert meant to show how Republican voters’ dissatisfaction with tabulator issues influenced turnout.
However, Thompson determined that Lake’s assertions were “based on poor footing, in fact, unfounded assumptions and basis.” Therefore, he concluded that Lake had not shown adequate proof that the election had been compromised by willful misconduct.
He noted last week that nullifying election results “has never been done in the history of the United States,” despite the court’s understanding of voters’ “anger and rage.”
Accordingly, Lake has submitted a petition to the Arizona Supreme Court.
“This state’s citizens are the ones I’m fighting for. While on Steve Bannon’s “War Room,” Lake defended the millions of people whose votes were diluted due to the illegal election in Maricopa County and the people who were victimized on Election Day “The podcast for Tuesday.
She tweeted her intention to challenge the court’s decision after handing it down last week.
Lake claimed that his “Election Case” results showed that American voting procedures violate international law. “Unfortunately, we could not convince this court to rule in our favor. However, I want to appeal his ruling to restore faith in our election system among voters.”
