Ramona Sarsgaard, the 18-year-old daughter of actors Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard, was arrested during a protest at Columbia University on May 7.
The Columbia College student was issued a desk appearance ticket for criminal trespass after joining a group of demonstrators who occupied Butler Library. Nearly 80 individuals were involved in the protest, which disrupted students preparing for final exams. Protesters reportedly displayed signs and marked library furniture with duct tape during the demonstration.
Two campus security officers were injured while attempting to manage the situation. Columbia University has since issued around 65 interim suspensions to participants, though it remains unclear if Sarsgaard is among them.
Neither Gyllenhaal nor Sarsgaard has made a public statement regarding the arrest. The incident adds to the growing tension on college campuses nationwide as student-led protests spark debate over activism and administrative enforcement.
