New York City’s mayor has expressed displeasure with how the Biden administration handled the border crisis.
On Tuesday, New York City Mayor Eric Adams branded the present migrant scenario a “real shame on a worldwide level,” adding that “there is no more place at the inn” in the so-called sanctuary city.
Adams was questioned about the influx of migrants into New York City, many of whom arrived there via bus, and the resulting problems that have arisen.
“It’s a national scandal that requires a national response. Migration has been a hot issue of conversation for decades. The entire nation is affected. He stated his case for a countrywide response to the problem on WABC’s “Sid & Friends in the Morning.”
Anchor Sid Rosenberg referred to it as a “Biden problem” and a “Democrat issue” when questioned about it.
“This is an issue Biden, and the Democrats made, and now you have to deal with it. In the interest of fairness and transparency, it is the truth,” He finally spoke his mind, and this is what he said.
Well, when we consider immigration reform, we’ll need the backing of Congress as well,” Adams replied. “The president, in my opinion, needs to speak up on some urgent matters. However, input from the executive and legislative departments is needed to resolve immigration concerns. We need to take some action right now.”
The number of persons encountered at the border in the fiscal year 2022 was over 2.3 million, which is expected to rise again in the fiscal year 2023. In response to criticism of its policies, the White House has asked Republicans to back its efforts to secure extra funding and pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill that includes a pathway to citizenship for millions of illegal immigrants, citing record levels of funding for the Department of Homeland Security, improved smuggling operations, and cooperation with countries in the Western Hemisphere.
The White House press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, said last month, “What Americans should know is that the president has done the work to deal with what we’re experiencing at the border since day one.”
Texas, Arizona, and Florida have each adopted various actions in response to the crisis, such as transporting migrants to more lenient municipalities and courts. Adams was furious that for most of 2022, Texas Governor Greg Abbott had decided to ship migrants to the city and other sanctuary communities. Adams claimed in the interview that Colorado was planning to relocate migrants to Denver due to the state’s migrant-related problems.
Adams said that cities shouldn’t have to deal with an “onslaught” of migrants because it degrades the “quality of life” in such places. He pointed out that New York has already taken in more than 30,000 refugees.
“This kind of stuff cannot happen in El Paso. Chicago is not the place for this kind of atrocity to occur. It is unfair to expect large urban areas like Houston, Washington, and New York to choose between caring for their citizens, especially in the aftermath of the Covid tragedy, and accommodating a swarm of refugees and immigrants, “The way he worded it.
The speaker called it “unfair” that local and state governments were expected to shoulder the cost of what he called a “national obligation.”
He said, “There is no more room at the inn,” but we are compelled by local law to continue providing sanctuary.
