On Friday night, during a rally in Georgia, Republican Senate contender Herschel Walker addressed criticisms leveled at him by former President Barack Obama.
Walker, a first-time Senate candidate and a well-known football star was the target of Obama’s criticism at a speech delivered from the Gateway Center Arena in College Park. Obama called Walker “a celebrity who wants to be a politician.”
“Former President Obama was a guest last night. What he meant was that I’m famous. He’s probably mistaken about it. I’m not some famous person; I fight for the Lord. Another thing he misunderstood. Just two years ago, he urged us to vote for Joe Biden, right? Don’t you think he messed up there? He’s already been beaten twice by Georgia, right? He should probably sit this one out. “According to a political writer for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Walker made these remarks on Saturday.
The incumbent Democratic senator from Georgia, Raphael Warnock, was challenged by Walker, who claimed he would pray for the former president and that Warnock was “the wrong horse.”
“I’m sad to tell former President Obama that, and I’m going to pray for him,” Walker continued. “There’s no doubt he needs assistance, so I’m going to pray for him. He requires assistance after backing the incorrect horse. You’re betting on the wrong horse, Senator Warnock. He’s obviously not qualified for the position; therefore, let him go. When you go, watch out that the door doesn’t smack your bum.”
While in Georgia, Obama, brought to the rally stage by Warnock, repeatedly criticized Walker’s Senate campaign and said Georgians don’t need someone like him representing them in Washington.
Among the greatest running backs of all time, Herschel Walker was a “heck of a football player,” Obama added. Is he the most qualified candidate to represent you in the Senate of the United States?
As the past head of state has stated, “Rev. Warnock’s opponent has not shown any enthusiasm for or knowledge of public service, volunteering, or aiding others, and hence makes a poor choice for president. At least, to the best of our knowledge, we are in the dark about it. That’s quite suspicious.”
Obama remarked of Walker, “a celebrity personality who wants to be a politician, and we’ve seen how that goes,” a reference to both Walker and his close buddy, former President Donald Trump, who was best known as a reality TV star and real estate billionaire before moving to politics and succeeding Obama.
Recent polls have shown that the next Georgia Senate election on November 8 is a toss-up between Warnock and Walker, both inside the survey’s margin of error.
