A Bering Air flight traveling from Unalakleet to Nome, Alaska, has been reported missing after failing to reach its destination. The aircraft, identified as a Cessna 208B Grand Caravan, was carrying ten people, including the pilot. Officials confirmed that the plane’s last known location was over Norton Sound, where it abruptly lost altitude before disappearing from radar.
Rescue crews immediately launched a search operation but were met with difficult weather conditions, including light snow and fog, which hampered visibility. Authorities later confirmed that debris matching the missing aircraft had been found approximately 34 miles southeast of Nome. Three bodies have been recovered from the site, while the search continues for the remaining passengers.
The National Transportation Safety Board has opened an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the crash. Officials have not yet confirmed whether mechanical failure, weather conditions, or other factors contributed to the aircraft’s disappearance.
Efforts remain ongoing as search teams work to locate the missing individuals. Authorities have urged caution due to hazardous conditions in the region but have assured the public that every effort is being made to complete the recovery operation.
