Alec Baldwin was involved in a confrontation inside a New York City coffee shop when an anti-Israel protester repeatedly urged him to vocalize support for Palestine. The incident, captured on video, escalated as the protester, identified as the host of an “anti-fascist” show “Crackhead Barney & Friends,” approached Baldwin while he was apparently on a phone call at the cash register of the Maman coffee shop on University Place.
The video shows the protester persistently asking Baldwin to say “Free Palestine,” to which he responded by shaking his head and refusing. The situation intensified as Baldwin attempted to lead the protester to the door, continuously asking her to leave while she pressed on with her demands and added inflammatory comments about Israel and Zionism.
The encounter took a more personal turn when the protester referenced Baldwin’s legal troubles related to the accidental shooting on the set of the film “Rust,” where cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally injured. Baldwin, who has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter charges with his trial set for July, was accused by the protester of escaping jail time for the incident.
As the confrontation continued, Baldwin sought help from the coffee shop staff, asking them to call the police as he tried to de-escalate the situation. The video concluded abruptly when Baldwin, apparently asking a staff member for a favor, knocked the protester’s phone away.
This incident marks another instance where Baldwin has faced public confrontation related to political issues. In a similar occurrence last December, he was approached by pro-Palestinian activists who questioned his stance on Israel, to which he expressed his support for peace in Gaza, leading to further disgruntlement from the activists.
The confrontation highlights ongoing tensions in New York City following recent anti-Israel protests triggered by violent conflicts in the Middle East. The public reactions Baldwin faced underscore the broader societal divisions and the personal pressures public figures often encounter amidst political activism.
