A legal organization backed by President Donald Trump has filed a federal lawsuit against Chief Justice John Roberts, accusing him of overstepping constitutional limits on judicial authority. The case, led by America First Legal, also names Robert J. Conrad, head of the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts.
The lawsuit claims that Roberts and the judicial administration have extended their reach beyond handling legal cases and court management, engaging in regulatory actions that lack legislative approval. At the center of the complaint is the argument that internal records from the Judicial Conference should be publicly available under the Freedom of Information Act.
This move reflects growing friction between Trump-aligned conservatives and the federal judiciary. The legal action also highlights rising demands for transparency and accountability within the court system as Trump, now serving his second term, continues to push for structural reforms across federal institutions.
