The public has begun to scrutinize Speaker of the House Mike Johnson after a recent probe into his personal finances revealed that he might be living paycheck to paycheck. In an article titled “Does New Speaker of the House Mike Johnson Have a Bank Account?,” published in The Daily Beast, concerns were expressed regarding his financial disclosures because he did not disclose any assets or open a bank account.

Over a seven-year period, Johnson, his spouse, and their kids did not record having a bank or savings account, according to Roger Sollenberger, senior political correspondent for The Daily Beast. Moreover, his most recent 2022 financial statement contained no asset disclosure. It is quite unlikely that Johnson does not have a bank account, despite the article’s suggestion that he may be living paycheck to paycheck. Additionally, Johnson is probably not immune from the disclosure rules that apply to members of Congress.

The piece generated a diverse array of reactions, with numerous people sharing their thoughts on social media, including celebrities and prominent figures.

Representative Matt Gaetz of Florida posted on Twitter, saying, “@SpeakerJohnson isn’t rich, corrupt, or rich from being corrupt, which infuriates The Daily Beast.” His financial transactions are open and honest. As a representative, he does not trade stocks. I guess they ought to cry more.

Representative Chip Roy of Texas offered his viewpoint, observing, “So, in a way, he’s like many Americans right now, all while handling the obligations of rearing a big family? What an oddity.

Representative Lauren Boebert of Colorado questioned the article’s premise, asking, “We’re supposed to be unhappy that Speaker Johnson isn’t corrupt and hasn’t utilized his position to profit himself? This demonstrates how disconnected they are.”

“Who allowed the non-wealthy folks in?” joked humorist and Townhall contributor Tim Carney, adding a humorous element to the conversation.

Contributor Joe Concha of Fox News brought attention to a number of crucial issues, one of which being the financial hardships faced by a large percentage of Americans—that is, those who cannot afford a $400 emergency. He also brought up the popular hostility to Congressmen owning stocks and Speaker Johnson’s 62-year-old eligibility for a congressional pension.

Commentator Charles Payne of Fox Business discussed the oddity of the current moment, pointing out that there are others who believe that legislators who choose not to use their insider connections to amass fortune are a special kind of people.

Kurt Schlichter, a hilarious Townhall contributor, said, “I think we need more rich people in Congress. Did I fully comprehend you?”

Speaker Johnson was compared to President Biden’s son Hunter, and Monica Crowley made similar accusations against Biden, implying that Speaker Johnson would get wealthy through his connections to China.

Echoing charges made against Hunter Biden, senior editor at The Federalist David Harsanyi asked a lighthearted question about Speaker Johnson’s son’s potential for starting an influencer-trading company.

A hilarious twist was given by Eduardo Neret, who implied that Speaker Johnson would be “perfect for the job” if he had gained his fortune by dubious methods, similar to Nancy Pelosi or Joe Biden.

Author of RealClearInvestigations Mark Hemingway added to the playful mood by suggesting that Speaker Johnson should allow his kids to interact with other governments and keep a portion of the money they make.

Neither Speaker Johnson’s office nor The Daily Beast have released an official remark on the subject as of yet.
