House Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-KY) has indicated that an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden is likely “imminent.” Some Republicans have been calling for the impeachment process to move forward after months of investigations into the Biden family’s overseas business dealings.
Comer mentioned during an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity that there is consensus within the Republican conference to initiate an impeachment inquiry. He stated, “I feel like we’re there now, Sean. I feel like that is imminent.” However, he noted that the decision to proceed with an inquiry would ultimately be made by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.
The investigations have centered on Hunter Biden’s foreign business deals and whether President Biden was involved or aware of them. The White House has maintained that the President was not involved in Hunter’s business dealings.
Comer claimed that there is evidence indicating that Joe Biden was “front and center” and that he met with individuals he previously denied having contact with. He also mentioned the timeline of Hunter Biden traveling to various countries on Air Force Two while Joe Biden was vice president.
The Oversight Committee has requested records from the National Archives detailing when and where Hunter had access to Air Force Two. Recent reports suggest that Hunter accompanied then-Vice President Biden on multiple foreign trips on Air Force Two.
Several House Republicans have already filed articles of impeachment against President Biden, citing allegations of misconduct and undermining the integrity of his office.
The prospect of an impeachment inquiry into President Biden has become a divisive issue within the Republican Party, with some members pushing for it while others remain hesitant. The final decision on whether to proceed with an inquiry will be determined by House leadership and the Republican caucus.
