Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat representing New York in Congress, has voiced her disagreement with recent statements made by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on the state’s policy of admitting Palestinian refugees from Gaza. According to the Jerusalem Post, these statements were made by DeSantis during a week in which an unusual number of terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas, an organization with its headquarters in Palestine, resulted in the loss of over 1,400 lives in Israel. It has been reported that Palestinian civilians took part in these attacks alongside Hamas terrorists.
DeSantis made this statement while campaigning in Iowa. “I don’t know what Biden’s gonna do, but we cannot accept people from Gaza into this country as refugees,” he added. I will not conduct myself in such a manner. If one is to judge them by their conduct, all of them are anti-Semitic, even if not all of them are members of Hamas. They are unanimous in their rejection of Israel’s right to exist.
In addition, DeSantis highlighted that “none of the Arab states are willing to take any of them” and that it is the primary obligation of Arab states to help Palestinian Arabs. He said that this was the case because “none of the Arab states are willing to take any of them.” He emphasized that the nations that surrounded Palestine had a responsibility to take initiative in order to provide Palestinian refugees a greater voice.
When Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez appeared on CNN to discuss the matter, she made it quite apparent that she did not agree with Israel’s harsh reactions to the recent crimes, which included a number of kidnappings and injuries to over 3,000 Israelis. She also stated that she did not believe that Israel was justified in its robust replies.
She stressed that the United States has always played a significant role in offering individuals a place to remain and an opportunity to start over within its boundaries, particularly in light of the hesitation of Arab nations to welcome Palestinian refugees. The United States has always provided people with a chance to start over and a place to stay. Following her response to the claim made by Governor DeSantis that “all Gazans are anti-Semitic,” Ocasio-Cortez responded to this terminology as “incredibly destructive and dangerous.” She referred to his statements as “reckless” and insisted that no American leader should convey such a message.
