Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said on MSNBC’s “Inside” on Sunday that the Republican Party is trying to “roll back” women’s and LGBTQ Americans’ civil rights.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said, “I think this is a very important time. I think the Republican Party is not beginning with Roe v. Wade. They are not going to stop in Roe. They won’t stop at the rights of women.”
She also said, “I think what we’re seeing is a general rollback of civil liberties.” Our right to privacy, our right to control over our bodies, and our right to marry whoever we want are all in danger. I think they won’t stop.”
She also said, “There are so many people who called us progressive hysteric when we said that Roe was really in danger. They said we were being too cautious and that this would never happen. And just like we did with Roe, we are warning about the very real risks. Trans-Americans are already being attacked. We can see that LGBTQ Americans are being hurt. Even some Republicans in the Senate have hinted that mixed marriage should be something that should be discussed. These are our human rights and freedoms, and we must fight for them. We must stop these attempts to take away the basic human rights of some groups in the U.S. because of who they are.”
