An arson investigation is underway after a fire was deliberately set at Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro’s residence while his family was inside, authorities confirmed Sunday.
According to state police, the blaze broke out in the early morning hours and was traced to an exterior area of the home. The fire was quickly contained by emergency responders, preventing major damage and ensuring the safety of the governor, his wife, and children, who were all asleep at the time of the incident.
Investigators believe the fire was intentionally started using an accelerant, and surveillance footage is being reviewed to identify the suspect. No injuries were reported, but officials are treating the case as a serious threat to the safety of public officials and their families.
Governor Shapiro has since spoken out, thanking first responders for their swift action and emphasizing his determination to remain focused on serving the state. He called the incident “deeply disturbing” but reassured the public that his family is safe.
Law enforcement agencies, including the state fire marshal’s office and local authorities, are leading the investigation. No arrests have been made as of yet, but police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
