Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad has issued a strongly worded statement rejecting claims that he planned to flee the country following the reported downfall of his regime. In the statement, Assad denied any intention to resign and dismissed allegations that he was preparing to leave Syria amid mounting opposition pressure and reports of his government losing its grip on power.

The statement, which emerged amid a series of rapid developments in Syria, emphasized that Assad remains committed to staying in the country, claiming he has no plans to relinquish control. “I will not resign, and I have not prepared to leave,” Assad reportedly declared, pushing back against growing speculation of his departure.

This response follows widespread reports of escalating rebel advances and signs of weakening support within Assad’s inner circle. International observers have noted significant military setbacks for the Syrian regime, adding to speculation about its stability.

Assad, in his statement, accused foreign powers of fueling rumors to destabilize Syria further, asserting that such narratives were part of a broader campaign to undermine the country’s sovereignty. He also reiterated his stance that the Syrian people would ultimately determine the nation’s future, rejecting external interference.

While Assad’s declaration aims to project confidence, analysts believe the developments signal a critical turning point in the prolonged conflict. Whether the regime can maintain its footing amid intensifying challenges remains uncertain.

As the situation continues to evolve, both regional players and global powers are closely monitoring events, raising questions about the potential implications for Syria’s political landscape and the broader Middle East.
