Authorities in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, have charged 21-year-old Dalton Janiczek — the son of a prominent Philadelphia lawyer — with multiple counts of attempted murder, aggravated assault, and related offenses after allegedly using his luxury Mercedes G-Wagon to strike two police officers during a violent encounter in Plymouth Township.
According to police, the incident unfolded late Friday night after officers initiated a traffic stop on the Mercedes for erratic driving. Rather than comply, Janiczek allegedly sped off, leading authorities on a brief pursuit before pulling into a hotel parking lot. When officers attempted to approach the vehicle, investigators say Janiczek suddenly reversed at high speed, slamming into a patrol car before accelerating forward toward an officer who had stepped out of his vehicle.
Dashcam and surveillance footage reportedly captured the moment the officer was hit, thrown to the ground, and then struck again as the driver continued to maneuver the Mercedes in the confined space. Despite severe leg injuries, the officer managed to apply a tourniquet to himself while calling for backup.
The chase continued until Janiczek’s vehicle collided head-on with another patrol unit, finally bringing the pursuit to an end. Officers arrested him at the scene, where he allegedly resisted before being subdued. Both injured officers were rushed to a nearby hospital and are now in stable condition.
Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele described the attack as “a deliberate act of violence against law enforcement,” emphasizing that the repeated attempts to hit officers constituted clear intent to kill. He noted that the charges reflect the severity of the incident and confirmed that prosecutors will seek to hold Janiczek without bail due to the danger he poses to the community.
Court records show that Janiczek comes from a well-known family in the legal field, with his father recognized for decades of work as a defense attorney in the Philadelphia area. Authorities have not released any statement from the family.
Police say the investigation remains active, with forensic experts examining the vehicle’s black box data to determine speed and impact force. The preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 4, where prosecutors are expected to present additional evidence including dashcam footage and witness testimony from responding officers.
The incident has reignited debate in Pennsylvania over violent confrontations during traffic stops and prompted renewed calls for stricter penalties against individuals who intentionally target law enforcement officers.
