Betsy DeVos Looks to Reverse Failed Obama Policy

Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos is looking to do away with an Obama policy that may be responsible for killing 17 people in Parkland, Florida.

The program was laid out in the 2014 Dear Colleague letter sent out by the DOE and the DOJ. The program was set up to discourage disciplining problem students since most of the students who were being suspended or expelled tended to be black. The DOJ would do an investigation when a student or a parent complained and the only criteria were the number of students suspended or expelled by race.

This does not take into consideration that perhaps at some schools the minority students are the ones causing the most trouble.

That policy was applied at the Marjory Stoneham School in Parkland. As a result, one troubled student with a history of violence at school was never arrested and since he had no record, it was easy for him to buy 10 guns. By now, I’m sure you know I am talking about Nikolas Cruz, who killed 14 students and 3 staffers.

Had he been arrested as he should have been, he would not have been able to pass his background check and likely would never shot up his old school.

This is not the only case we know about. A mother with three children, 2 boys, and a girl had her boys bullied daily and her daughter was groped for months and the school refused to do a thing about it.

Teachers and administrators are beaten by students who now believe no action will ever be taken against them.

    From The Washington Times

DeVos, in her role as chair of the Trump administration’s newly formed Commission on School Safety, will also hear Wednesday from teachers and education advocates who argue that the federal guidance is needed to prevent minority and disabled students from winding up in the “school-to-prison pipeline.”

Evan Stone, co-CEO and co-founder of Educators for Excellence, said black students are suspended at three times the rates of white students, while those with disabilities, a category that includes conditions like ADHD, are twice as likely to be suspended or expelled.

The department “must continue to highlight the disparities that exist in school discipline, investigate districts where those disparities may be caused by bias, and support the implementation of strategies to reduce punitive discipline,” he said in a statement.

This is just another failed policy the Obama caliphate put out that failed miserably.

Failure was the only thing that administration seemed to excel at.
