After the publication of a video in which a French-Israeli woman named Mia Schem, who is 21 years old, was shown pleading for her safe return after being taken hostage during an attack on a music festival in southern Israel by Hamas, the administration of Vice President Joe Biden has issued a strong condemnation of Hamas for its use of propaganda strategies. John Kirby, the spokesperson for the National Security Council, said that Schem undoubtedly delivered her testimony under duress since she was probably compelled to do so. This is because she was probably pressured to do so. He regarded the film as a piece of propaganda that was produced by Hamas in order to create an image of compassionate care, despite the fact that they were responsible for the original injury that was done to the woman.
In response to the film, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released a statement in which they emphasized that Hamas strives to represent itself as compassionate while being a “horrific terrorist organization” that is responsible for the kidnapping and murder of innocent civilians, including children and the elderly. The IDF statement also emphasized that Hamas attempts to depict itself as humane despite being a “horrific terrorist organization.”
Hamas at first said that they had seized dozens of captives during the raid on October 7, but now they assert that they have about 250 hostages, although they concede that they confront difficulty in properly calculating the number. Mia Schem is seen receiving care for an injured arm in the video. She claims that her captors had done a three-hour operation on her arm. The footage was taken after Mia Schem was released from captivity. She begs for her freedom and implores that she be allowed to see her loved ones as soon as possible after being separated from them.
When Hamas terrorists launched their attack, Schem and dozens of other festivalgoers were among the approximately 250 individuals who were brutally murdered and dozens more who were kidnapped and taken to the Gaza Strip. Schem had been enjoying the festival with hundreds of other young people. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) believes that Hamas is now holding up to 200 hostages, and they are currently preparing for a ground operation to either free the hostages or execute the terrorists who work for Hamas.
During a news conference in Tel Aviv, Mia Schem’s mother, Karen Schem, made an impassioned appeal to the leaders of the world, pleading with them to enable her daughter’s safe release along with the safe return of the other hostages. She referred to the scenario as a crime against humanity and voiced her concern for her daughter, claiming that Mia seems afraid and is most likely repeating what she is being told. She added that she believed the situation to be a crime against humanity.
The Israeli government and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are continuing their efforts to secure the release of all hostages held by Hamas, including Mia Schem.
