The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has uncovered that the Biden administration allocated $2 billion to Power Forward Communities, a climate-focused nonprofit associated with Stacey Abrams. This funding, intended for the decarbonization of homes in low-income areas, was part of a larger $20 billion initiative under the Inflation Reduction Act. The funds were placed in an external financial institution before the end of President Biden’s term.
EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin expressed concern over the grant, noting that Power Forward Communities reported only $100 in revenue in 2023. He emphasized the discrepancy between the organization’s reported income and the substantial grant amount.
The grant aimed to support the replacement of household appliances in underserved communities with environmentally friendly alternatives. However, questions have arisen regarding the selection process and oversight of the funds, especially given the organization’s limited financial history.
Power Forward Communities has not responded to requests for comment on the matter. The situation has prompted discussions about the transparency and accountability of large-scale federal funding allocations to nonprofit organizations.
