President Biden has finally broken his silence on his granddaughter, Navy Joan Roberts, the daughter of his son Hunter Biden, whose existence he had previously not acknowledged publicly.
In a statement to a lesser-known news outlet, Biden revealed that his son Hunter and Navy’s mother, Lunden, have taken steps to build a relationship that prioritizes the best interests of their daughter, with a strong emphasis on safeguarding her privacy in the future. The President emphasized that this is a personal family matter and not a subject for political debate, expressing his and First Lady Jill Biden’s genuine desire for the well-being of all their grandchildren, including Navy.
Throughout the years, the Bidens have artfully avoided mentioning Navy, often referring only to their “four granddaughters.” This omission was particularly evident during the holiday season when Navy was noticeably left out of the White House Christmas stocking display for two consecutive years. In a rather awkward moment in 2020, Biden mistakenly claimed to have five grandchildren, inadvertently neglecting baby Beau and erasing Navy from his grandparent count.
Even during a White House event dedicated to “take your child to work day,” Biden mentioned having six grandchildren, curiously neglecting to include Navy in his count. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre followed the pattern, skillfully dodging questions about Navy in recent times, hinting at a deliberate effort to maintain a certain level of secrecy on the matter.
Only in June did Hunter manage to settle his contentious child support case with Navy’s mother, Lunden Alexis Roberts, putting an end to a protracted paternity dispute. The settlement involved Hunter offering his daughter some of his artistic creations, and in return, Lunden agreed to drop her counterclaim seeking to change their child’s last name to “Biden.”
The dynamics surrounding Navy’s acknowledgment by the Biden family have been enigmatic and somewhat peculiar, adding yet another layer of intrigue to the political landscape.
