Biden has promised a’relatively soon’ announcement on his plans for 2024.
Biden told reporters before leaving Ireland that he had “already made that calculus” on whether to seek re-election next year and that he will announce his decision “relatively soon.” Biden’s short remark was in response to their persistent questions about his 2024 chances.
Before boarding Air Force One to fly to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Vice President Biden addressed the media at Ireland’s West Airport Knock.
One reporter wanted to know if their estimation of when they will disclose their 2024 intentions had changed in light of recent events.
A resounding “No. I’ve done the math on it already. We’ll make an announcement quite shortly,” Biden said. But being here has made me more certain that positive change is possible.
“So you’ve made a decision,” the journalist probed.
Clearly agitated, Biden replied, “I told you my plan is to run again.”
In February, First Lady Jill Biden claimed that her husband is “pretty much” ready to declare his re-election campaign, thus Biden’s statements are consistent with previous White House statements and her own.
“He says he’s not done,” the first lady told the Associated Press during her stop in Nairobi. He hasn’t completed his tasks. And that’s the crux of the matter.
When asked by MSNBC in February if Biden “intends to run” for president again in 2024, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre made similar comments.
Jean-Pierre was asked by “The Sunday Show” host Jonathan Capehart if an official announcement would be made soon on a Biden-Harris 2024 ticket. She responded coyly, saying “what I can say is repeat what the president has said many times is that he intends to run,” despite being legally prohibited from discussing politics. And with that, I’ll end it.
Although Biden has yet to make a public declaration of his candidacy for reelection in 2024, the long-shots Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and Marianne Williamson have already joined the race for the Democratic nomination.
At a campaign kickoff ceremony on April 19 in Boston, Massachusetts, Kennedy, son of the late Senator, Attorney General, and Presidential Candidate Robert F. Kennedy and nephew of the late President John F. Kennedy, would announce his candidacy for the presidency.
The best-selling author and spiritual advisor Williamson officially began her second run for the Democratic presidential nomination last month. Williamson has been actively campaigning in early voting primary states including New Hampshire and South Carolina since the announcement.
