In order to combat an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones, former President Joe Biden has started a new phase of his cancer treatment: radiation therapy combined with hormone therapy.
In addition to the oral hormone regimen he has been following since his diagnosis, his medical staff revealed that the therapy is being provided over a period of roughly five weeks. Although it is still hormone-sensitive, which is thought to be advantageous for therapy responsiveness, the cancer has a Gleason score of 9, which indicates a high degree of aggression.
Following reports of urinary problems and the finding of a prostate nodule, the diagnosis was made public in May. His team then discovered that the malignancy had spread to his skeletal system. As part of his continuous medical monitoring, Biden had Mohs surgery earlier this year to remove a questionable lesion off his forehead.
According to people involved in his care, he is handling the treatment well and there haven’t been any significant side effects noted. His team keeps an eye on his progress during treatment and makes any necessary adjustments.
