Former President Joe Biden completed a several-week course of radiation therapy on Monday at Penn Medicine Radiation Oncology in Philadelphia, his office confirmed. The 82-year-old was diagnosed in May with a Gleason score-9 prostate cancer that had already spread to his bones, making it a high-risk form of the disease.
Following a previously announced schedule of hormone treatment and surgery to remove skin cancer lesions, Biden took part in the tradition of ringing a silver bell at the clinic to mark the completion of his radiation phase. His daughter, Ashley, shared the moment on Instagram and thanked the medical team for their efforts.
While doctors describe the cancer as “hormone-sensitive,” meaning it may respond well to therapy, they emphasize that metastasis to bone typically renders the disease unlikely to be cured; instead, it is managed over time. Biden’s spokesperson maintained that this radiation milestone represents progress, but did not disclose whether additional treatment will be required.
