The President, Joe Biden, made the statement this week that the federal criminal investigation of him and the case against former President Donald Trump are different because of the “degrees of recklessness” involved in each.
These remarks were delivered by Biden during an interview with ABC News’s David Muir on Friday.
When asked about the Justice Department’s probe into the leak of classified material, Muir warned that it also included the previous administration. Indeed, I am aware of your firm belief that “these two instances are fundamentally different. A quote of yours that comes to mind after the Mar-a-Lago discovery is, “I felt data that was in there may imperil sources and techniques and identities of folks that aid and it’s just really irresponsible.”
Can you assure me that no classified U.S. intelligence sources or procedures were exposed in the garbage I found in your garage or at your old workplace? “What?” To find out more, Muir approached the question with curiosity.
The council has urged me not to try to influence the case in any way, so I will leave the Justice Department make that call, as has been their practice,” Biden added. The Senator went on to say that “few papers that have been confiscated, found, in my custody that are in, other than, in my possession,” referring to his home and all the items he had removed from his Senate office over the years. I may be missing some key pieces of information, but I can’t think of anything at the moment. It’s unclear to me whether or not the information in question is categorized as secret or highly sensitive. I have no idea what they are capable of doing or what they have taken away from me, therefore I am not allowed to remark.
The anger of President Biden upon hearing that Trump owned classified information by federal officials last year was emphasized further by Muir.
While describing the pile of boxes in your garage or your old office, Muir said, “One adjective you used was irresponsible.” Is there any risk-taking going on here, too? she said.
You’re a brilliant attorney and everything, but you’re comparing apples and oranges. Nevertheless, as Biden pointed out, “there are degrees of irresponsibility, and those degrees may be pretty large.” My office was packed up, and not everything was examined as carefully as it should have been.
According to Biden, though, this was all for naught. Here, no one can ever lock you out since all the doors are always open. Two places that I call “home” are my primary abode and my beach cottage. And they looked through my personal effects for quite some time. This is a very another issue. There is nothing about which I should feel embarrassed.
