On the same day that former President Donald Trump was arrested in Fulton County, Georgia, President Joe Biden took to online fundraising for his reelection campaign, dubbing it a “great day” to contribute. Trump’s arrest was in connection to an indictment issued by District Attorney Fani Willis, which charged him and 18 others in a 41-count indictment.
Biden tweeted a call for donations to his campaign, accompanied by a link to his Act Blue donation page. The donation page encouraged supporters to contribute to the “Biden-Harris campaign to fight back against MAGA Republicans.”
Mike Davis from The Article III Project criticized Biden for fundraising on a day when his “chief political rival got booked,” highlighting the perceived insensitivity of the timing.
This isn’t the first instance of Biden using controversial events to promote his campaign. He previously embraced the “Dark Brandon” meme in a video released on the same day Trump faced federal charges related to the January 6 events. The “Dark Brandon” meme originated during the 2022 mid-term elections and was a response to Biden’s divisive speech characterizing MAGA Republicans as a threat to American democracy.
In response to Biden’s actions, Davis called for House Republicans to initiate an impeachment inquiry against Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland.
Meanwhile, Trump has been released on a $200,000 bond, with this amount being the highest among all of his co-defendants. The incident has once again highlighted the intense political divisions and rivalries that persist in the United States.
