Democratic presidential candidate Dean Phillips, who garnered around 20% of the vote in the New Hampshire primary, recently shared his experience of attending a rally for former President Donald Trump in the state. In a conversation on “FOX & Friends,” Phillips emphasized the need for bipartisanship in the 2024 election and spoke about his commitment to reaching across the aisle.

Phillips, a Minnesota Democrat, explained his approach to politics, which has been marked by a desire to bridge divides. He highlighted his success in flipping a traditionally Republican district by engaging with voters from all political backgrounds. He stressed that true leadership involves engaging with people across the political spectrum, something he practiced by greeting supporters of various candidates at the polls.

During his visit to the Trump rally, Phillips noted the cordial and respectful reception he received from Trump’s supporters. This experience, he said, contradicted the popular narrative of deep political division, which he termed “anger-tainment.” He argued that in reality, Americans are more united than they are divided.

The New Hampshire primary saw President Biden win decisively in a write-in campaign, as his name was not on the ballot. Phillips finished in second place, while Marianne Williamson came in third. Despite the results, Phillips spoke about the need for a new generation of political leaders, expressing a desire for a fresh face in the November elections, potentially in the form of a Phillips-Nikki Haley matchup.

Phillips also addressed speculation about a third-party run, firmly dismissing the idea. He reiterated his commitment to the Democratic primary process and opposed any effort that might split votes in the general election. His focus, he said, is on addressing issues that truly matter to the American people.

As the primary season progresses, both President Biden and Donald Trump have emerged as strong candidates in their respective parties. Biden, in a statement, underscored the high stakes of the upcoming election, calling for unity among Americans who value democracy, personal freedoms, and a fair economy.
