Comedian and political commentator Bill Maher is calling on Democratic leaders to address controversial rhetoric from mainstream media figures following remarks made on “The View” by co-host Whoopi Goldberg comparing the United States to Iran.
During a recent episode, Goldberg suggested the two countries share concerning similarities in how they treat certain groups, a comment that quickly drew criticism across political lines. Maher, speaking on his show, emphasized that such comparisons not only misrepresent the truth but also damage public perception of American values.
He argued that equating the U.S. with a regime like Iran’s undermines legitimate criticism and fuels polarization. Maher warned that allowing extreme commentary to go unchecked on widely viewed programs could further alienate moderate voters and undermine the credibility of liberal media.
Maher’s remarks come amid heightened global tensions and increased scrutiny of how domestic media frames international affairs. He urged Democrats to hold their media allies accountable and to ensure that political discourse remains fact-based and responsible.
