As the upcoming election approaches, Detroit residents reveal a divided outlook on their preferred candidate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. In conversations with Fox News Digital, Detroit locals highlighted the close race, with both candidates commanding support across different communities.
Keandre, an east-side Detroit resident, emphasized strong support for Trump, saying, “It’s got to be Trump for the whole city.” Conversely, Ron, another Detroit native, supports Harris, stating, “My friends who support Trump only think about themselves; we need someone who considers the whole country.”
Meanwhile, Tom from St. Clair Shores in Macomb County noted the area’s mixed sentiments, anticipating a “close one.” Mandela, a supporter of Harris, also acknowledged Trump’s perceived strength as a leader, adding, “I think it’s Trump because he won’t let anyone run over us.” However, Mandela also voiced a desire to see Harris succeed, predicting, “It’s time for history to be made; we’re ready for a woman president.”
Polling data shows Michigan as a battleground state, with a New York Times and Siena College poll indicating Harris leads by a slim 48% to Trump’s 47%. Both campaigns have targeted Michigan and other key “Blue Wall” states in recent months, hoping to sway voters in states that were pivotal in past elections.
