Two U.S. Border Patrol agents were shot at in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood as unrest escalated following President Biden’s executive order on immigration policy. The agents were reportedly fired on during a crowd confrontation while transporting a group of undocumented individuals.
Simultaneously, Department of Homeland Security vehicles came under attack: agents on the scene reported that rocks and bricks were hurled at several unmarked vans and tactical units were forced to intervene. No agents were wounded, and the migrants under custody were safely transferred.
Local authorities and federal partners responded with reinforcements, securing the area and opening a criminal investigation into both the shooting and the vehicle attacks. Four individuals were arrested on charges including discharging a firearm in a federal zone and assaulting federal officers.
The incidents raise questions about city preparedness and coordination with federal immigration agencies, as Chicago continues to be a flashpoint for enforcement actions amid national policy shifts.
