Border Rancher Issues Dire Warning on MS-13 Activity

Jim Chilton, an Arizona-based rancher of five generations, has expressed apprehension regarding the intensifying border crisis, citing the increase in unauthorized migrant crossings on his property as a threat to national security. Chilton, in an interview with Fox News, characterized the situation as a grave concern, emphasizing the inadequate level of security that permeates the majority of the border.

Chilton’s ranch has emerged as a central issue in the ongoing crisis at the southern frontier, where U.S. Customs and frontier Protection (CBP) data indicates an unprecedented influx of unauthorized migrants. During the initial week of December, the Tucson Sector in Arizona recorded an unprecedented 18,900 migrant apprehensions, which surpassed the cumulative number of encounters recorded in December 2021.

169 individuals listed on the FBI’s terror watch lists were encountered between ports of entry at the southern border during fiscal year 2023, surpassing the cumulative tally from the previous six fiscal years. This information further intensifies the concerns of the rancher. Chilton articulated his apprehension regarding the potentiality of terrorists traversing the frontier via his ranch.

Chilton further escalated the situation by relating an event in which his spouse came across armed members of the MS-13 gang on their property. Additionally, he observed that cartel agents frequently traverse the mountains surrounding his ranch, which suggests that the cartels exert considerable authority over the region. According to Chilton, cartels strategically inundate specific regions with migrants in order to divert the attention of Border Patrol agents, thereby facilitating the importation of contraband and terrorists into the United States.

The rancher attributes a portion of the influx of migrants to President Biden’s decision to suspend border wall construction. Although the administration granted $950 million in November for wall repairs and enhancements, Chilton advocated for the expeditious completion of the wall and increased Border Patrol personnel as a means to safeguard the nation.

Local landowners were profoundly affected by the border crisis, as Chilton’s account illustrates. His demand for more stringent border security measures reflects the growing apprehension of border residents regarding the national security repercussions of unchecked migrant crossings.
