A staff member at Boston University has come under scrutiny for a social media post targeting employees of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The individual, identified as Jared May, an assistant media technician at the university, shared a graphic on the platform Bluesky featuring images of several young men associated with DOGE, accompanied by the caption “WANTED FOR TREASON, DEAD OR ALIVE.”
DOGE, led by Elon Musk, aims to streamline government operations and reduce waste, aligning with President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign promises. The department has been actively involved in initiatives to enhance governmental efficiency.
In response to the post, a Boston University representative stated, “We are aware of a post made by an employee on his personal social media account…. We do not comment on personnel matters. The views expressed do not reflect the values of Questrom School of Business.” Subsequently, May’s staff webpage at the university was removed.
Elon Musk reacted to the incident on X (formerly Twitter), commenting, “Noted,” and adding, “He has committed a crime.” As of now, there has been no official response from DOGE regarding the matter.
This incident has sparked discussions about the boundaries of personal expression on social media, especially concerning statements that could be perceived as threats or incitements to violence. The situation remains under review, with potential implications for university policies and employee conduct standards.
