Brittney Griner, a WNBA star who was just released from a Russian jail in exchange for a known Russian terrorist, has spoken out against proposed rules that would protect biological females from being forced into physical confrontation with biological males.

ESPN’s Bill Rhoden asked Griner on Thursday at a press conference. Several states are swiftly moving to ban transgender athletes from participating in competitive sports, and he said, “You’ve always stood for so much in your career about access and being able to do things, and I hate to add one more thing to your plate.”

As she continued, “And I was wondering,” she added, “again, I don’t want to add anything else to your plate, but where is that on your radar?” He wanted to know more about it. Given your imminent ascendancy to power, how high on your priority list is it to fight for transgender athletes’ equal access to competitive sports?

That’s definitely something I’ll be advocating for,” Griner added. Everyone should feel safe to come here, have a seat in one of these chairs, and have a good time without fear of intimidation, harassment, or discrimination of any kind.

Because of this, I think it’s wrong to keep people apart,” Griner said. Therefore, you can count on me to speak out against the proposed legislation and the laws generally.
