Previously, Mulvaney and President Biden discussed LGBTQ issues.
TikTok sensation Dylan Mulvaney, who identifies as transgender, was recently announced as the new face of Bud Light in two videos that were widely panned online. According to the gender activist on Saturday, Bud Light sent cans featuring the influencer’s likeness in honor of Mulvaney’s recent “365 Days of Girlhood” achievement.
In another video for the campaign, Mulvaney sat in a pool while drinking a Bud Light and wrote, “Happy March Madness! Just found out this was a sports thing and not just a way to say it’s a crazy month! To celebrate this sports thing, @budlight is giving you a chance to win $15,000!” Twitter users reacted negatively to the news, calling the commercial campaign yet another example of pushing gender prejudice.
Conservative critic John Cardillo wrote, “Who the hell at @budlight thought it was a good idea to make a grown man who dresses like a little girl their new spokesperson? Brands need to stop listening to their “woke” creative teams and get in touch with their consumer demographics.” Stephen Miller, a contributing editor at The Spectator, said, “This might be the strangest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.” Derek Hunter, a writer for Townhall.com, made a joke about @budlight being “the groomer of beers.”
Director Robby Starbuck tweeted, “Message from @budlight to conservative families seems to be: We will encourage and even celebrate the erasure of men and women and all the values you care about. They’ve gone totally woke. Will you ever spend your money with them now?” Ian Miles Cheong, a writer, also wrote, “This isn’t a joke. Dylan Mulvaney is now the face of Bud Light.” Erick Erickson, a conservative radio host, wrote, “Is the Bud Light thing an April Fool’s joke? It’s trash beer, but given who drinks it, it seems like a terrible marketing move.”
Mulvaney had also announced a relationship with the fashion company Kate Spade just a few days before. After making headlines in October for asking President Biden about transgender problems in an interview, Mulvaney tweeted, “Celebrating the first day of spring with @katespadeny and being a #katespadenypartner.” Biden said, “I don’t think any state or person should have the right to do that, both morally and legally. I think it’s wrong.” Actress Drew Barrymore also interviewed Mulvaney, and during the interview she bent down and gave Mulvaney a hug to show her support.
