A woman in Bakersfield, California, was taken into custody after allegedly removing an American flag from a public park and replacing it with a Mexican flag. The incident took place at Hart Park, where authorities say the suspect cut a lock securing the flagpole before discarding the U.S. flag and hoisting the Mexican flag in its place.
Park rangers arrived at the scene and confronted the woman near her vehicle. According to law enforcement reports, she became aggressive, using profanities and making threats against the officers and their families. Deputies from the Kern County Sheriff’s Office soon intervened and placed her under arrest.
The woman now faces multiple charges, including resisting arrest, vandalism, trespassing, and making criminal threats against law enforcement. Authorities also noted that a small amount of marijuana was found in her possession at the time of her arrest.
She is expected to appear in court next week as officials continue their investigation into the case. The incident has sparked reactions from the local community, particularly given ongoing debates surrounding immigration and national symbols.
