Caitlyn Jenner attacked Nike on Thursday for becoming “woke” because it worked with trans TikTok star Dylan Mulvaney. This is seven years after Jenner herself worked with a clothing brand as a trans woman.
After Mulvaney posted a series of Instagram photos on Wednesday showing Jenner wearing Nike tights and a sports bra as part of the sponsorship deal, Jenner, who came out as transgender in 2015, called out the company.
Mulvaney, a trans woman and the company’s newest paid brand advocate, wrote in the caption of a picture to her 2 million followers, “Alert the media: I’m entering my workout era.”
Jenner, who now works for Fox News, said that the business link was “outrageous.”
“As someone who grew up admiring what [Nike co-founder] Phil Knight did, it is a shame to see such an iconic American company go so woke!” she wrote. “We can be open and still have some respect, but not at the cost of the vast majority of people. “This is a terrible crime.”
She didn’t say how “the vast majority of people” were hurt by Nike’s decision to work with Mulvaney, but she did tweet, “STOP TRYING TO ERADICATE WOMEN.”
But in 2016, a year after her transition, Jenner had very different ideas about trans people and business funding. She was recently in ads for H&M Sport, a line of sports gear made by H&M.
In June 2016, Jenner told InStyle that “sportswear and sports are great ways to get a message out and make people understand” the promotion. This is a problem that affects everyone. It can go as far as it wants. It affects people of all races and skin tones in the same way. It doesn’t matter if you are male or female. It’s important to be a part of H&M around the world and help get the word out.
She said that transgender acceptance still had “a long way to go” before it was talked about by a lot of people.
For a long time, people didn’t care about transgender issues. Because of this, no one would talk about them. Jenner said that he was the first trans person he had ever met. Young people have a higher suicide rate than other age groups because it is hard for them to deal with problems. But your child shouldn’t have to move or change schools to live a real life. I hope we’re showing that it’s okay to talk about these things in an open way.
In 2020, four researchers did a study and found that 56% of trans kids had tried to kill themselves and 86% had thought about it.
It is not clear why Jenner suddenly changed his mind.
People had many different thoughts about her most recent Twitter post about Nike and Mulvaney.
I don’t think “outrage” is the right word. “Is it okay to advertise to a group that is on the outside?” asked a second person. People who say they are “outraged” by cancel culture, on the other hand, are louder about wanting to cancel many events and activities. She likes to drink, read, and watch Disney movies.
Several of the people who left comments agreed with the reality star.
I haven’t been so happy to say that Jenner is the best of what it means to be an American since Caitlyn was on a Wheaties box.
Conservatives are upset that Mulvaney, a TikTok star with more than 10 million followers, is linked to brands like Nike and Bud Light.
Mulvaney talked about how she deals with the abuse she gets because she is out as a trans woman on “The Drew Barrymore Show.”
I said, “Trans joy is the most powerful thing I have.” She said, “I’m not trying to be anything other than myself and what makes me happy.”
