A tragic incident occurred at the Swan Boat Club in Berlin Township, Michigan, where a car crashed into the building during a children’s birthday party, resulting in the deaths of two children and injuries to at least fifteen others. The crash happened around 3 p.m. on Saturday and involved a 66-year-old woman who authorities reported was intoxicated at the time of the accident.
The vehicle dramatically plunged 25 feet into the club, striking the area where the birthday celebration was taking place. Among the victims were two siblings, a five-year-old boy and an eight-year-old girl, who tragically lost their lives. In addition to the fatalities, six adults and three children suffered life-threatening injuries and were receiving treatment at area hospitals as of Saturday night.
Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough described the scene as extremely chaotic and emotionally charged, highlighting the distress faced by both the victims and the witnesses. In response to the accident, the Swan Boat Club announced a temporary closure to allow emergency responders to manage the scene and to ensure that no additional people would be at risk.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the incident, with criminal charges pending against the driver, who was taken into custody and is being held at Monroe County Jail.
