“60 Minutes” host Scott Pelley observed that President Biden appeared “tired” while overseeing American efforts in Ukraine and Israel, particularly during the Hamas terror attacks. Speaking about the president, Pelley noted, “America’s oldest president seemed tired from directing all of this.” He emphasized that Biden had experienced a challenging week, and it was evident in his demeanor.
At 80 years old, Joe Biden currently holds the title of the oldest-serving president in American history. Should he secure re-election in 2024, he would be 86 by the end of his term. Despite concerns surrounding his age, Pelley noted that Biden was clear about his policies and believed they would guide America forward.
However, the president’s age is a point of concern among Democratic strategists and the media. Recent reports and polls indicate that Democratic voters, as well as the general electorate, have reservations about Biden’s age and his ability to recall his accomplishments. A majority of voters, according to a Monmouth University poll, feel he is “too old” to serve another term, even more so than their sentiment about former President Trump’s age.
As the Israel-Hamas conflict unfolded, the White House faced criticism from various quarters for failing to account for at least 20 missing Americans in Israel. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan clarified that while there were over 20 Americans unaccounted for, not all were necessarily held as hostages.
During the interview with “60 Minutes,” Biden was asked directly about his plans for running in the next presidential election. He expressed his intention to seek re-election with the aim of advancing global peace.
